For as long as she can remember, beautiful Laurel deCourtney has loved Matthew Hughes and has always assumed the handsome landowner and consummate gentleman loves her in turn. But with her coming out now three years behind her, Laurel is starting to get a little anxious. Why hasn't Matthew proposed? What is he waiting for?
With the theory that absence will make the heart grow fonder, Laurel journeys to Brighton for the summer. Thrilled when Matthew unexpectedly follows, her mood quickly turns when she realizes that a foolish bet she made with the caddish Lord Vedder during a high-stakes game of cards threatens her reputation and her future with Matthew.

A Touch of Scandal (Audible Audio Edition) Connie Brockway Heather Wilds Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
A lovely short story about unrequited love. The heroine was a little weak but the hero makes up for it!
The sweetest love story. Very well written and I loved the hero. He was such an honorable man.
Fantastic short story! I found it whimsical, charming and full of the trademark Brockway wit that I've come to expect and love. I've found StoryFront romance shorts to be around 50 pages or less - perhaps the previous reviewer was expecting more of a novella - but this was definitely sold as a short story and I don't know how Ms. Brockway could have written a better story in so many words! I do agree that $1.99 is a bit pricey. Highly recommended, despite the cost!
Can we all have a Matthew? I loved this story! So sweet and heart pounding. Why couldn’t this have been a full length novel? I want more!
I generally like works by Connie Brockway, for she draws her characters well and plots interesting well written tales. Which is why this short story received two stars instead of one. This story revolves around neighbors who have always been destined to wed, as far as their village and families assume. Yet the hero is slow to act and in time honored tradition the heroine decides a bit of jealousy will move him along. Of course, using the character of a villain from several other books, this machination backfires and ... well, you know the formula. My objections to this work are first, the length - a mere six chapters; second, the cost - many excellent full length Regencies can be had for the price or less; and third, the adherence to formula. I have come to expect Me. Brockway to expend the effort to make each story her own by going above and beyond hackneyed plots and injecting some creativity. Not here. This short story instead reads like a previously unpublished draft of a section of a full novel, or an early attempt. Perhaps I am most disappointed by an established author displaying her venality by tossing off a quick one close to the holidays simply because her readers will buy literally anything she publishes at this point. Another author going the way of Nora Roberts ... what a waste of a reputation.
Formulaic is the word, not typical of Ms. Brockway at all. The H is slow on the uptake and the h did something foolish.
I've enjoyed most of Ms. Brockway's work.....some are truly outstanding, THE SONGBIRD'S SEDUCTION and AS YOU DESIRE, to name only two. But this fell flat. This is just fluff, and not entertaining fluff at that. I didn't see the whimsy, the wit, or the humor...I wish I had. Instead, it lacked an imaginative plot and bored me.
I got this on unlimited, so I'm not mad about the price. But if I'd paid $1.99, I would have been. This author has some excellent titles out there but, in my opinion, this isn't one of them. Even though the story was short, it was a struggle to get through.
I also love short stories. That way I can go quickly from one to another. This one is interesting and fun. It is Ms. Brockway at her best.
Loved the book, recommend it to anyone. Had all the characteristics of a good plot and with a happy ending.
